Jon Gruden has resigned from the Las Vegas Raiders after The Wall Street Journal and New York Times reported racist, homophobic and misogynistic emails were sent by the former head coach.

NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero first reported the news Monday night.

The Raiders provided official word of Gruden's resignation Monday night, releasing a statement from the now ex-head coach:

Raiders owner Mark Davis later announced he accepted Gruden's resignation.

Gruden sent the emails before he was re-hired by the Raiders in 2018. They were discovered during the NFL’s investigation into the Washington Football Team and its owner, Daniel Snyder.

The Wall Street Journal reported Friday afternoon that Gruden sent an email to then-Washington executive VP/general manager Bruce Allen using a racist trope about NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith.

The New York Times reported Monday night that Gruden sent emails containing homophobic slurs and misogynistic emails during a seven-year span before being hired by Las Vegas in 2018.

Gruden met with Raiders owner Mark Davis on Monday before announcing to his coaching staff and players that he was resigning, Pelissero and NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday.

Special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia will serve as interim head coach.
