Fantasy: Week 11 Mailbag

Throughout the 2011 season, Tyler Loechner and Alex Miglio will select Twitter questions and answer them right here at PFF Fantasy. Although you’re bound to have your questions answered almost immediately from the staff on Twitter, we will choose a handful of good questions each week and give them more in-depth answers. Here are this week’s questions and answers:

Megatron, roddy, manningham, denarius Moore. Need to sit one of them. Who should it be? – @DonseliusDurang

Loechner – That's a great group of wide receivers. I like Calvin Johnson, Roddy White, and Denarius Moore this week. That leaves Mario Manningham out of the mix, although he has been hot the last few games. For Megatron, not much explanation is needed. You aren't benching him.

White has been having a subpar season by his standards (-5.5 PFF rating). However, most of that negative rating came from his week 10 performance in which he netted a -5.4 grade. White still gets plenty of looks, though. His 86 targets are fourth most in the NFL. As a defense, the Titans have a -22.5 pass rush rating, so Matt Ryan should have plenty of time to sling it this weekend. I expect White to go over 100 yards again for just the second time this season.

Moore gets the nod over Manningham simply because of how often Carson Palmer is looking his way. Moore has combined for 18 targets, 9 receptions, 184 yards and 2 touchdowns in the last two weeks. By comparison, Darrius Heyward-Bey, Oakland's leading receiver on the season, had just 1 target last week. Moore and Palmer have shown great chemistry, and against Minnesota's suspect secondary (29th ranked PFF pass coverage unit), I'm expecting another big week from Moore.

Will Peyton Hillis start this week against Jacksonville? And if he does, should I start him? – @TriRy

Loechner – Shortly after asking this question Hillis was ruled out for the week 11 tilt against Jacksonville. He is getting healthier, and I'm guessing he will play within a week or two. He is not a sure-fire start once back, but he has proven to be dominant when healthy.

Regardless of whether or not you believe in the Madden curse, Hillis has not had a good season. There has been locker room tension, injuries and re-injuries, and overall disappointment. Whether or not you start him is largely based on who else is on your roster. Starting running backs are hard to find once fantasy playoff time arrives though – so Hillis gets a huge bonus there. He has carried the ball over 20 times just once this season, but was very effective in that game (27 carries, 94 yards, 2 touchdowns).

His 3.5 YPC average is almost a full yard lower than it was in 2010. His 2.7 yards after contact average might seem low this year, but he was only at 2.9 last season. I would not avoid Hillis at all costs. He can still be a bruising runner. If he comes back fully healthy for the fantasy playoffs, owners who have stuck with him all season could reap the rewards.

pick 2. PPR. Helu, L Robinson, V Brown, D Nelson, Maclin(if he's a go), Ogbonnaya. 1 has to be WR. – @FFB_Guru

Loechner – Go with Laurent Robinson and David Nelson. The last few weeks they have each averaged about four catches a game. However, they both have a nose for the end zone. In the last three weeks, these guys have combined for six touchdowns.

Robinson has come on strong in Dallas recently, especially with Miles Austin sidelined with a hamstring injury. Robinson played in 85.5 percent of Dallas' offensive snaps last week and ran 26 pass routes. Tony Romo looks his way deep and has been largely successful when doing so. Romo has an NFL passer rating of over 100 when throwing to Robinson when he is at least 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

Nelson runs over 36 pass routes a game and has played in about 90 percent of Buffalo's offensive snaps the last few weeks. A staggering 23 of Nelson's 54 targets have come in a very small window: passes between 0-9 yards over the middle. Nelson has caught 19 of those passes with no drops. He has also registered every single one of his touchdowns in that zone.

Who should I start for my WR2(week 11); Percy Harvin, Laurent Robinson, Damian Williams or Vincent Jackson? – @ejarts

Loechner – This is an easy choice for me – Vincent Jackson. Sure, he has been inconsistent. But there is no way you are leaving a guy who can go over 125 yards with two touchdowns on any given week on the bench. He has the 11th most yards among all receivers this year and his six touchdowns are tied for fifth. Chicago's defense is tough, but Jackson has the ability to go into beast-mode on any given week.

I have harvin, mwtb, little, d. Nelson, l. Robinson, ballard for 3 spots in a ppr [sic]– @TheycallmeG

Loechner – I would start David Nelson, Laurent Robinson, and Percy Harvin. For my reasoning behind Robinson and Nelson, see above.

I'm not really thrilled about any of your other options. Percy Harvin, Mike Williams (Tampa Bay), and Greg Little have combined for one whole receiving touchdown on the entire season. Jake Ballard is too far down the list of Eli Manning's options for me to love him. Harvin, despite vastly underperforming, has been decent since Christian Ponder took over as quarterback.

He has 10 catches the last two weeks and went for over 50 yards both in both games. It's not great, but it passable for a flex position. Harvin still gets a few rushing attempts each week, and is explosive enough to go for a big gain on any play. He does have an 8.8 YPC average. I wouldn't be overly confident rolling out with that group of wide receivers, but it's the best you can do for now.
