Fantasy: The Snap Report -- Championship Games Offense

The weekly offensive snap report is a summary of the participation data for each team’s running backs, wide receivers, and tight ends. Although the main focus is snaps, we also cover important categories like pass routes and designed runs.

Patriots 23, Ravens 20

Wes Welker paced the wideouts with 68 snaps, followed by Deion Branch’s 61. Julian Edelman played 31 snaps, running 18 pass routes, in addition to playing defensive back. Tiquan Underwood was on the field for two snaps, Matt Slater one. Aaron Hernandez edged Rob Gronkowski in snaps, 70-61, because Gronk left briefly with an ankle injury. With fumbling Stevan Ridley inactive, BenJarvus Green-Ellis nosed out Danny Woodhead in snaps, 27-25. Fullback Lousaka Polite worked five snaps.

Anquan Boldin led all skill players with 72 snaps, with Torrey Smith playing 68. Lee Evans played 37. LaQuan Williams got on the field for one play. Dennis Pitta, clearly moving ahead of Ed  Dickson, held a 42-35 edge in tight end snaps. And Pitta ran 30 routes compared to Dickson’s eight. In the wild card round, Dickson held a 44-35 edge in snaps. Kris Wilson played four snaps. Ray Rice worked 58 snaps to lead the backfield, and Ricky Williams spelled him for 15 plays. Fullback Vonta Leach worked 33 plays.

Giants 20, 49ers 17 (OT)

Hakeem Nicks and Victor Cruz played an incredible 85 snaps apiece, with Mario Manningham getting 58. Jerrel Jernigan played two snaps and was surprisingly targeted on a key third down. Devin Thomas was on the field for one offensive play. Jake Ballard gritted out 77 snaps at tight end. Travis Beckum played 29 snaps, running 21 routes, and Bear Pascoe played 11. Ahmad Bradshaw dominated backfield snaps with 54. Against San Francisco’s top-ranked run defense, Danny Ware got more snaps than Brandon Jacobs, 19-16.  Fullback Henry Hynoski played 28 snaps, running 11 routes.

Michael Crabtree played 56 snaps without making an impact. With Ted Ginn sidelined, Kyle Williams played 46 snaps at WR in addition to fumbling twice on punt returns. Brett Swain played two snaps. Tight end Vernon Davis played 61 snaps, and Delanie Walker played 50. Justin Peelle worked six snaps. In the backfield, Frank Gore got 58 snaps to Kendall Hunter’s 11. The disparity seems too big given how effective Hunter was. For some reason Anthony Dixon got two snaps. Fullback Bruce Miller worked 16 plays.
