As has been expected for months, the Washington Redskins officially re-signed wide receiver Santana Moss. He signs a 3-year deal worth $15 million, with $5 million of that guaranteed.
At 32 years old, Moss is definitely on the decline. That being said, he still showed that if he has the right quarterback throwing him the football, he’s still able to be plenty productive. Last season he was clearly Donovan McNabb’s favorite target, reaching a career high in receptions with 93, to go along with 1115 yards and 6 touchdowns.
With either John Beck or Rex Grossman at the helm, Moss’s decline could become magnified if either quarterback struggles to consistently get the ball to him. But if last season is any indication, this shouldn’t be too much of an issue. In the three games started by Rex Grossman, Moss had a combined 22 receptions for 231 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Redskins still plan on adding another top wide receiver, although they lost out on their top target, Santonio Holmes. Whether or not they can actually sign another wide receiver remains a big question. Either way, Moss should be expected to be the top receiver in Washington.
Fantasy Spin:
Unless John Beck or Rex Grossman shock the world, the Washington offense should take a definite step back this year. And with Moss no doubt regressing this year himself, he is no more than a WR3 option with limited upside. You shouldn't expect much more from him than 75 receptions for 945 yards and 5 touchdowns.
