Fantasy: IDP Waiver Wire - Week 16

D.J. Smith - PackersWhether you’ve lost players to injury, are looking for a bye week fill in, or simply looking to upgrade your IDP’s, the IDP Waiver Wire is here to help you know who to look for in your leagues waiver claims.

LB D.J. Smith – Packers

While the IDP staple Desmond Bishop is injured, he is being replaced in the starting line-up by rookie D.J. Smith, and as long as Smith keeps playing so well there will be no rush to rush Bishop back. Smith has graded a very respectable +4.8 in only 192 snaps which would rank 22nd among ILBs, just above Lawrence Timmons and Colin McCarthy. Smith has been a productive stand-in too, recording 19 solo tackles and 4 assists for a tackle frequency of 11.98%, good enough to rank 15th and above high profile LB1s such as James Laurinaitis, Patrick Willis and Sean Lee. Dom Capers is also happy to let Smith rush the passers (45 snaps) and although he is yet to record a sack, he does has 6 hurries, so can be expected to convert one soon. If Bishop is ruled out this week it makes Smith a solid LB2.

CB Ashton Youboty – Jaguars

Multiple injuries in the Jaguars secondary has had them scrambling to plug in players and one who has stuck is Ashton Youboty. After a promising +3.4 at RCB in his debut as a starter against Houston in week 12, Youboty proceeded to grade -3.3, -1.5 and -4.3. His poor play is not going unnoticed by opposing teams and he is being targeted on average 8 times a game, including 10 and 12 times in the last two. As a result he has 24 total tackles, 2 passes defensed and an interception in those 4 games. The Jaguars are down to the bare bones so Youboty will be playing this week and I’d expect him to be heavily targeted again.

S Jamarca Sanford – Vikings

If you are scraping the barrel this week for a safety then Jamarca Sanford can offer you some consistency in his scoring. Although he has been an every week starter, he has seen an increase in snaps recently. Sanford played 99.1% of snaps over the past 5 weeks and recorded 32 total tackles, including 8 and 9 in his last two games. Similarly to Youboty, Sanford has not excelled when in the spotlight and has graded -12.4 since week 11. He has been particularly poor in coverage and has allowed 19/27 passes to be completed for 8 TDs and seen his per game targets increase from 1.4 in his first 7 games, to 2.6 over the last 5. Another player who is being picked on by opposing teams who has the has DB2 upside this week.

DT Jurrell Casey – Titans

The Titans draft class has deservedly received a fair bit of positive attention and Jurrell Casey has certainly been a major part of it. Despite just 1 sack to his name, Casey has graded +12.2 on the season and is our 14th best DT thanks to his excellent play against the run. Amassing 35 solo tackles (=3rd) he has graded +10.5 (9th) when defending the run which makes him a dependable option for you in your fantasy championship games. He has also come close to recording a few more sacks, having registered 4 QB hits, and a Jacksonville O-Line which has allowed 30 sacks (2nd most) could be the match-up he needs to get his name on the stat sheet again.

LB Jordan Senn – Panthers

Another defensive unit that has fallen victim to injuries is the Panthers linebacker corps, and the most recent recipient of extended playing time is Jordan Senn who has taken over the weak side linebacker role from Dan Connor. Since starting at WLB in week 12, Senn has 31 total tackles to his name, averaging 7.8 a game and is coming off the back of 12 total tackles last week. If you are desperate then Senn makes for a LB3 with upside this week.
