IDP Stock Market looks at IDP players that are being overvalued and undervalued based on our advanced NFL statistics. If you’re looking for the sell-high or buy-low IDP candidates for your fantasy roster, this is the article for you.
Buy:
Jason Allen – CB – Houston Texans
Jason Allen has beaten out the woeful Kareem Jackson (-4.1) who finally ran out of rope with the Texans and rewarded them with an interception in both of the last two weeks. More importantly to fantasy owners though,
he looks like he will still be targeted in future games despite the big plays. In his starts in weeks 4 and 5 he played 124/128 snaps and was targeted 23 times, allowing 183 yds, 1 TD and an average completion of 13.1 yds, which are hardly shutdown numbers. Allen now has 13 interceptions since he was drafted in 2006 and will look to increase those numbers now he is a starter.
Brian Robison – DE – Minnesota Vikings
Playing opposite a top rate pass-rusher like Jared Allen can do wonders for your fantasy value, as evidenced by Brian Robison so far this season. Robison has already recorded five sacks this year and leads the entire league in QB hurries (22) according to our stats. He has also graded +12.6, which ranks 7th among 4-3 DEs, showing how effective he is being. Although he puts up low tackle numbers (7 in 5 games) he is still a highly desirable DE to own, especially with the elite duo of Justin Tuck and Trent Cole not contributing due to injuries. Robison has low-end DE1 scoring potential for the rest of the year.
Hold:
James Anderson – LB – Carolina Panthers
The injury crisis in Carolina has seen the linebacker corps decimated after Jon Beason and Thomas Davis were placed on IR. Dan Connor become the MLB du-jour, but has not been able to find his way on to the field in nickel formations, and has not played more than 39 snaps in a single game. James Anderson however is the everydown guy for the Panthers and has put up some solid numbers, albeit quietly. On pace to exceed 85 total tackles, Anderson is still a LB2 with upside, so don’t bench or cut him quite yet.
Sell:
T.J. Ward – S – Cleveland Browns
After a stunning rookie season, amassing 81 solo tackles, the impressive T.J. Ward has failed to reproduce a similar level of production so far in 2011. Drafted to be a top 5 DB, Ward has only had more than 5 solo tackles in one game so far this year, when last year he did it eight times. The problem has not been Ward, who has only 1 missed tackle, but the improved Browns defense. The additions of DT Phil Taylor and DE Jabaal Sheard, as well the return to fitness of MLB D’Qwell Jackson has meant a big reduction in his number of playmaking opportunities, and it looks unlikely to change without injuries to the current front 7. If you can still trade Ward based on his reputation, do so.
Nick Barnett – LB – Buffalo Bills
Listing Nick Barnett as a “sell” is a recommendation to “sell high” as he is currently the #1 scoring LB in our IDP scoring system, as there is only one way his performance can go from here. Barnett is an LB2 masquerading as an elite LB1 and although he will be a solid performer moving forwards, trying to trade him for Lawrence Timmons or another IDP under-performer should pay dividends when you reach the fantasy playoffs.
