Week 10 is in the books, and we're getting to the point where it's either time to make a push for a long playoff run or start preparing for next year. On the outside chance that you had one of these players on your team, then odds are good that they helped you move one step closer to locking up a playoff spot. Let's find out who these top performers were.
New Orleans safety, Roman Harper, showed why he was one of the top defensive backs drafted this year with a strong performance against the Atlanta Falcons. Harper flexed his IDP muscle with a whopping 10 solo tackles, 13 total tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, and 1 pass defended. His negative 6.0 PFF rating on the season is consistent with what you would expect from a top fantasy defensive back.
Chicago cornerback, Tim Jennings, had a monster game against the Detroit Lions, filling up the stat sheet with 9 solo tackles, 10 total tackles, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 pass defended. It’s the type of performance that you expect at least one defensive back to have against such a pass heavy team. The performance helped get him up to a positive PFF rating, at 0.2. Despite the big game, he’s shouldn't be owned in even the deepest leagues.
Tampa Bay defensive tackle, Brian Price, had a strong game against the Houston Texans on Sunday, putting up 5 solo tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, and 1 sack in a fairly standard performance from a defensive lineman. However, don’t expect these games to be standard for Price, who carries a negative 12.4 PFF rating on the season, while playing on just over half of the defensive snaps
The man with one of the coolest names in football, Cincinnati defensive end Frostee Rucker, had ice in his veins against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday. Rucker was able to rack up 3 solo tackles, 5 total tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, and 1 sack. But don’t go rushing to your waiver wire to grab him. Despite his 6.9 PFF rating, Rucker only plays about one third of the total defensive snaps.
Kamerion Wimbley definitely didn’t do San Diego Chargers quarterback, Philip Rivers, any favors, as he helped lead the Oakland Raiders to a win against the Chargers on Thursday night. Wimbley had an unbelievable line of 7 solo tackles, 4 tackles for a loss, 4 sacks, and 1 pass defended, helping him score a 10.6 PFF rating on the game, and giving him a 28.4 PFF rating on the season. But unless you’re in a league that rewards big points for sacks and tackles for a loss, Wimbley isn’t really worth owning.
Karlos Dansby has finally started to show signs of life for the Miami Dolphins, and had with an absolute monster game against the Washington Redskins. Dansby lit up the Redskins with a stat-sheet stuffing 9 solo tackles, 10 total tackles, 2 tackles for a loss, 1 sack, 1 interception, and 2 passes defended. Dansby now has a solid 4.8 PFF rating on the season.
