Fantasy: IDP - Monday Morning Cornerback: Tuesday Edition

Well, two things happen when I lose power mid-afternoon: 1) I don’t get to watch the Monday nighter, making me unhappy; 2) You don’t get the Monday Morning Cornerback until Tuesday, making you unhappy. So without further ado, here’s the Monday Morning Cornerback: Tuesday Edition.

Carolina did its best to upset New Orleans, but the loss wasn’t the fault of James Anderson or Richard Marshall.Anderson put up a ridiculous 14 solo tackles, 16 total tackles, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble, and 2 fumble recoveries.  Not to be outdone, Marshall got 9 solo tackles, 10 total tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 1 pass defended. Anderson sports a 3.9 PFF rating, a lot thanks to his 2.9 rating this week. Marshall got his first positive score with a 0.6 PFF rating this week, setting his overall rating at negative 1.4.

Lawrence Timmons continues to get it done for the steel curtain in Pittsburgh. Against Baltimore, Timmons managed 7 solo tackles, 15 total tackles, and a fumble recovery. All of this gets his PFF rating up to 11 overall, with 4.1 coming this week. He currently ranks third overall at ILB, with some of this week’s scores to still be calculated

So with the breaking news of Mathias Kiwanuka potentially being out for months with a bulging cervical disk in his neck, the defensive ends in New York needed to step up against the Chicago Bears, and they did in a huge way. Justin Tuck put up an enormous 7 solo tackles, 3 sacks, and 1 forced fumble, while Osi Umenyiora managed 3 solo tackles, 4 total tackles, 3 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles. It was against the brutal Chicago Bears offensive line, but it’s still an admirable performance nonetheless. This should really help out Umenyiora’s and Tuck’s PFF ratings, as Umenyior’s sat at 1.6 going into this week, while Tuck was at a surprising negative 0.1.

Reigning Defensive Player of the Year, Charles Woodson, scored his first touchdown with an interception of Shaun Hill, to go along with 11 solo tackles, 14 total tackles, and 3 passes defended. If he was in your lineup, you probably had a pretty good week. Woodson’s one of those rare DBs that is a big name in real life and fantasy. He had a 1.0 PFF rating going into this week, and I only expect that to get a significant boost after this week.

Shaun Phillips was probaby the biggest IDP surprise of the week, when he posted 5 solo tackles, 6 total, a career-high 4 sacks, and interception, 2 passes defended, and a touchdown. Wow. That really helped him out a lot, as he was sitting at a 0.3 PFF rating going into the week, and he came out of it with a nice 4.9 rating, getting a significant 4.6 boost. Obviously don’t expect games like this, but Phillips is still a decent play in deeper leagues.
