It was All-Star Weekend in the sports world, with both the NHL All-Star game and the NFL Pro Bowl taking place. Now like most, I didn’t watch either of them, and it’s been a few years since I’ve watched any sports All-Star game. But nevertheless, I decided to break down some of the top IDP performers while we get ready for the upcoming Super Bowl. Read on to find out who I would have given Pro Bowl MVP to.
With 5 solo tackles, 1 pass defended, 1 interception, 1 fumble recovery, and 1 TD, DeAngelo Hall was the Pro Bowl MVP. During the year, Hall was overrated in both the fantasy and real game. However, he only 19 missed snaps all year, and still registered a 4.2 overall PFF rating.
One of the leading tacklers of the Pro Bowl, Michael Griffin, finished with 6 solo tackles, and 8 total tackles. Griffin was a very solid fantasy DB this year, while missing only 9 snaps all year, and finishing with an overall negative 2.1 PFF rating.
Matching Griffin’s output was London Fletcher, who has 7 solo tackles, and 1 interception. Fletcher has continued to defy Father Time, posting strong numbers again this season, and only missing 4 snaps this season. Fletcher finished the season with an overall 8.8 PFF rating.
If this was a real game, it would have been a pretty big flop from Jerod Mayo. Mayo finished the game with 5 solo tackles, and 7 total tackles, which aren’t bad numbers for most, but subpar for what Mayo provided fantasy owners this season. Mayo was on the field for 96.6% of the total defensive snaps this season, while posting an overall 8.1 PFF rating.
Brian Orakpo had a solid game with 6 solo tackles and 7 total tackles. Orakpo missed Week 16, but was on the field for 90.8% of the snaps over the other 15 games this season, finishing with a 1.1 overall PFF rating.
Now I know he’s not an IDP player, but Montell Owens had one heck of a game on both sides of the ball, and would have been my pick for Pro Bowl MVP. Owens finished with 2 solo tackles, 3 total tackles, 1 fumble recovery, 2 receptions, 22 yards receiving, 1 rush for 3 yards, and 2 TDs. Owens played 5 offensive snaps,\ over 11 games, finishing with a 0 PFF rating on offense and a 2.5 PFF rating on special teams. In terms of defensive stats this year, Owens had 11 solo tackles and 12 total tackles over
