Rookie draft season is winding down, and the dust has started to settle on the landscape of first-year NFL players. Rookies and players entering their second year are unique dynasty assets in the sense that we have seen glimpses of what they can do on the NFL field, but in most cases they haven’t reached their ultimate trajectory as a professional, be it good or bad. For dynasty leagues, being able to tell the difference between success (and lack thereof) that stems from talent, opportunity, or a little bit of both is essential in weeding out flukes from future stars.
As such, as I have for the last few seasons, I’ll be writing a weekly post offering news, notes, and analysis of this year’s rookie class (as well as college prospects). For a primer, below are my current top 30 rookie rankings for dynasty leagues, with an in-depth look at the top 10.
1. Ezekiel Elliott, RB, Dallas Cowboys
Who should be the top pick of 2016 rookie drafts hasn’t been a debate for some time now. From both a collegiate production (4,125 total yards from scrimmage, 41 touchdowns the last two seasons) and athletic measureable (4.47 40-yard dash at 225 pounds) standpoint, Elliott is an elite talent. He also landed in an ideal situation for both immediate and long-term production, while each of the consensus top three receivers have their own question marks.
