Start
Brock Osweiler, QB, Texans (vs. Lions)
It must look weird to see Osweiler’s name after watching his Monday night meltdown this past week. But don’t let a difficult matchup with the Broncos turn you away from the best possible matchup in Week 8. We’ve said it before in this column, and we’ll say it again — the Lions are the 2016 version of the 2015 Saints defense. You want to target them every week. Even at home in Week 7 against a Redskins offense that did everything possible to screw up in the red zone, the Lions allowed Kirk Cousins to complete 30-of-39 pass attempts for 301 yards and one passing touchdown.
This is the floor for an opposing quarterback against the Lions’ defense. Cousins is not playing that much better football than Osweiler. He can’t even get on the same page as his best wide receiver DeSean Jackson. It didn’t matter for Cousins, and it won’t for Osweiler. The Lions are dead-last in our pass-rush grade and No. 25 in pass coverage. They have simply been unable to find a pass rush outside of a few splash plays by Ezekiel Ansah. The same can be said about their pass coverage outside of Darius Slay.
