24 teams, 24 observations: A key metric for every Championship club

With just the playoffs to go, we can now take a look back at a full season of games in the Championship and highlight one interesting stat or note from all 24 teams in the league.


Birmingham City

Defender Auston Trusty led the league with 120 tackles won over the course of the season.

Blackpool

Jerry Yates’ 88.2 PFF shooting grade tied for the sixth-best mark in the Championship this season.

Blackburn Rovers

Dominic Hyam’s 90.4 PFF grade on 50-50 duels was the highest in the Championship. He was the only player with a 90.0-plus mark in that facet of play.

Bristol City

Anis Mehmeti averaged 3.74 individual touches per possession. That was the second most among all players in the league with at least 300 possessions this season.

Burnley

Taylor Harwood-Bellis had the ball in his possession for 85 minutes and 50 seconds this season. That was the most among all defenders in the Championship.

Cardiff City

Defender Perry Ng won 82% of the 50-50 duels he was involved in this season, the highest win rate of any player to be involved in at least 50.

Coventry City

Gustavo Hamer completed 72% of the dribbles he attempted. That was the best dribble completion rate of all players in the league to attempt 50 or more dribbles this season.

Huddersfield Town

Jack Rudoni’s 1,219 pressures applied were the most of any player in the Championship. No other player broke the 1,200 mark.

Hull City

Matt Ingram saved 74% of the on-target shots he faced this season. That was the most among all goalkeepers in the Championship to face at least 50 such shots.

Luton Town

Thirteen of Carlton Morris’ 110 shots this season were deemed unsavable, the second most in the league behind Chuba Akpom of Middlesbrough.

Middlesbrough

Ryan Giles attempted 456 crosses in the Championship this season, with no other player in the league reaching 400 attempts. Ninety-five of those attempts reached a teammate, which ranked second.

Millwall

Defender Jake Cooper won 328 aerial duels over the course of the season. No other player in the league reached 300 wins in that regard.

Norwich City

Teemu Pukki’s 41 defensive line-breaking pass receptions were the most of any player in the league. Viktor Gyökeres of Coventry City was the only other player to be on the receiving end of 40 or more.

Preston North End

No player in the Championship blocked more shots than Liam Lindsay's 44 this season.

Queens Park Rangers

Midfielder Sam Field was on the pitch for 4,400 minutes this season, the most of any outfield player in the league.

Reading

Andy Carroll recorded the highest one-touch possession percentage (76%) of any player in the Championship with at least 700 possessions.

Rotherham United

Viktor Johansson’s 155 saves were 27 more than any other goalkeeper in the division.

Sheffield United

Oliver Norwood completed 66 “ball over the top” passes this season — 23 more than any other player in the league.

Stoke City

Morgan Fox was one of just two players in the Championship to record a 90.0-plus PFF tackling grade. His 90.8 grade was bettered only by the 94.8 mark from Watford’s Hamza Choudhury.

Sunderland

Patrick Roberts led the league with 102 completed dribbles over the course of the season. He and teammate Jack Clarke were two of only three players in the league to complete 100 or more dribbles this season.

Swansea City

Matt Grimes completed 519 line-breaking passes this season. Teammate Ben Cabango completed 309, with no other player in the league breaking the 300 mark. Grimes also led the league by being on the receiving end of 365 line-breaking passes.

Watford

Daniel Bachmann’s 90.1 PFF shot-stopping grade was the best in the league. He was the only goalkeeper in the Championship to earn a 90.0-plus grade.

West Bromwich Albion

No player in the league completed more defensive line-breaking passes than John Swift, who had 27, this season.

Wigan Athletic

Jack Whatmough won 63% of the challenges he attempted this season. He was the only player in the Championship to attempt 70 or more tackles and finish with a win percentage of 60% or higher.
