- Overlooked within the Sun Belt Conference, Troy S Kris Weatherspoon excelled in coverage during his junior campaign a year ago. He forced an incompletion on 24.4 percent of his targets, which ranked No. 1 among draft-eligible safeties with at least 40 targeted passes.
- When playing from the slot, Weatherspoon allowed a reception just once every 20.4 snaps in coverage, ranking No. 4 among all returning FBS defensive backs with at least 100 slot snaps in 2016.
- Weatherspoon also left his mark on opposing offenses against the run, especially when he lined up close to the line of scrimmage. He ranked No. 15 in the nation in run stop percentage (7.2) when he lined up inside the box.
- Working against his draft stock, Weatherspoon missed 14 of his 65 tackle attempts last season, slotting him at No. 132 in tackling efficiency among draft-eligible safeties.
