In Week 6, I wrote about how left tackle Anthony Costanzo was off to the best start of his career and, eight weeks later, that statement still holds weight.
A first-round pick in the dreadful Curtis Painter/Kerry Collins 2011 season, Costanzo’s performance actually took a turn for the worse in his sophomore year (Andrew Luck’s first year as signal-caller), but improved slightly the following year and has downright impressed this year.
Costanzo has the 11th-highest Pass Blocking Efficiency rating and the 10th best overall grade among tackles with 31 total pressures allowed in 681 pass blocking attempts. He’s only graded out in the red as a pass blocker one time this season: a -2.5 outing in Pittsburgh where he allowed a sack, two hits and a hurry. Since that Week 8 game he’s only allowed 11 pressures, including a perfect stat line against Washington.
Costanzo has also evened out some early-season hiccups as a run blocker and currently sits right about middle-of-the-pack in our run block rankings among tackles.
Can Costanzo continue this kind of production in the playoffs?
