We’re officially into the final quarter of the season and the playoffs are starting to take shape. The Saskatchewan Roughriders celebrated clinching a playoff berth with a bye last week, while the B.C. Lions and Winnipeg Blue Bombers increased their chances of at least a crossover playoff game with wins last week. As always, we’ll highlight all the players that helped their team find success last week with the ‘Team of the Week’
Despite losing 26-18 in their game against Winnipeg, the Ottawa Redblacks actually finished with eight players on this week’s Team, the most in the league. The B.C. Lions were second with five players after their massive win over Calgary. The Toronto Argonauts brought up the rear with just one player making the team after their 21-19 loss to Montreal.

QUARTERBACK OF THE WEEK: QB NATHAN ROURKE, BRITISH COLUMBIA
With the Lions fighting for a playoff spot, Rourke is doing all he can to make sure that they get to book their ticket. The Canadian QB was nearly perfect last week, completing 20-of-24 passes for 331 yards and two touchdowns. Of those four incompletions, two were drops and he was hit as he was throwing on the other. Rourke made two big-time throws, had zero turnover-worthy plays, threw 52% of his passes beyond the sticks, and finished with a 90.5 passing grade. Rourke also rushed for 44 yards, three touchdowns, and broke five tackles on just six carries. That was good for a rushing grade of 85.8, which helped him finish with a league-high 93.4 overall grade on the week.
Rourke has the best big-time throw vs. turnover-worthy play ratio in the league (6.3% vs 2.6%) and is the highest-graded player in the CFL this year at 91.6 overall.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: WR KEON HATCHER, BRITISH COLUMBIA
It was an electric game for this B.C. Lions’ offense and, as they have been all season, they were led by Keon Hatcher. The elite receiver caught all eight targets he saw for 146 yards and six first downs. Five of those catches were explosive receptions, and Hatcher averaged a league-high 5.84 yards per route run. He also added in a broken tackle for good measure, and finished with a receiving grade of 89.2
Hatcher’s season-long receiving grade of 81.7 currently leads the league, as does his 2.60 yards per route run average and his 35 explosive receptions.
OFFENSIVE LINE OF THE WEEK: OTTAWA REDBLACKS
No surprise here, given that three members of the Redblacks offensive line made this week’s Team. As a unit, Ottawa was dominant. While Ottawa rushed for just 64 yards on 14 carries, the offensive line had a league-best 75.8 run blocking grade. As pass blockers, the Redblacks didn’t allow a sack and surrendered just four total pressures on 49 dropbacks. Their pressure percentage of 8.2% was more than 10% higher than second place. A week after allowing seven pressures, LT Dino Boyd kept a clean sheet in pass protection for the first time all season.
PASS RUSHER OF THE WEEK: EDGE ANDREW CHATFIELD JR., TORONTO
While Chatfield Jr. didn’t record a sack for the Argonauts, he was a constant presence in the Montreal backfield all game long. Chatfield finished with three quarterback hits, five hurries, and four additional pass rush wins. The edge rusher swept the pass rush categories this week, leading the CFL in pass rush win rate (29.6%), pressure percentage (29.6%), and pass rushing productivity score (14.8).
Chatfield’s been one of the best pass rushers in the CFL this season, ranking first in the league with 60 total pressures.
RUN DEFENDER OF THE WEEK: LB NAJEE MURRAY, MONTREAL
Montreal has the best linebacking corps in the league, and Murray has been proving to be one of the top SAM LBs in the league. This week he made four tackles in the run game, including a league-high three solo stops. Two of those tackles went for losses and he finished with a run defense grade of 78.0.
On the year, Murray has a run defense grade of 83.2 that ranks seventh among linebackers across the CFL.
COVERAGE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: HB DEATRICK NICHOLS, WINNIPEG
The Blue Bombers finished last week’s game giving up 33 completions for 406 yards against Ottawa’s QB Dru Brown. Those numbers make Nichols’ performance that much more impressive. The halfback saw just four targets on 45 coverage snaps and allowed just a single catch for six yards. He also broke up a pass that was then intercepted by teammate Cam Allen. On 31 coverage matchups, Nichols’ man was deemed open on just five of them. He finished the game with a coverage grade of 78.8 that led the league among defensive backs.
