It seemed as if you could have put all of the chalk plays from Week 8 into the DFS fades article and been okay. I mean, Julio Jones, Mike Evans and T.Y. Hilton combined for fewer than 100 yards. And then Jordan Howard decided that the Vikings defense wasn’t stiff enough, and wound up with more 200 total yards and a touchdown.
Now that we’ve gotten “the upside-down week” out of the way, we should be able to return to normal programming. Here in the DFS fades article, we don’t spend time talking about the usual players that you should play, but rather the ones that you should avoid by all means necessary. Do whatever you have to do — remove them from your player pool, hook yourself up to a machine that shocks you when you think of them — just do something to make sure you aren’t playing them.
Quarterbacks
Tyrod Taylor, Bills (DraftKings $5,000, FanDuel $7,200)
Once again, DraftKings is trying to tempt you into playing a quarterback with a putrid matchup. Over the last few weeks, they have lowered Philip Rivers’ price to less than $6,000 against the Broncos, trying to lure in ownership. It’s a similar story with Taylor this week, who will go on the road to play in Seattle, arguably the toughest place for a quarterback to succeed. Outside of Matt Ryan (who is destroying every defense in his path), the Seahawks have allowed just two passing touchdowns all season. Before Ryan nearly beat them at home, the Seahawks had held the previous 10 quarterbacks to just eight touchdowns in Safeco Field. Taylor has managed to put together a solid resume, despite the loss of Sammy Watkins, but this is a test that’ll prove to be too tough for him. After all, he’s thrown for more than 246 yards just once this season. On top of that, the Seahawks have played against Ryan Tannehill and Blaine Gabbert, two of the more mobile quarterbacks, and they allowed just 39 rushing yards to them combined. While Taylor has been impressive, this is not a week where I’d trust that trend to continue.
