The Chicago Bears are hiring former Kansas City Chiefs executive director of player personnel Ryan Poles as their next general manager, according to multiple reports.

Poles, 36, was expected to be a finalist with the Minnesota Vikings and had a second interview scheduled for Wednesday. Now, he's agreeing to terms with Chicago and has already reportedly met with former Detroit Lions and Indianapolis Colts head coach Jim Caldwell.

Caldwell is 30 years Poles' elder, and the combination of an experienced coach and a young executive appeals to Bears brass.

Chicago's decision to hire Poles could lead the Vikings to bring fellow finalist Kwesi Adofo-Mensah aboard as their next general manager.

In 2008, the Bears signed Poles as an undrafted free agent out of Boston College, where he played left guard for Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan. He began working with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2009 and enjoyed a meteoric rise to general manager.

Last year, Poles was a finalist for the Carolina Panthers general manager position, and this year he was also a finalist with the New York Giants, bringing the total to four teams in two years.

If the Bears head coaching search is still ongoing, other candidates connected to Poles include former Miami Dolphins head coach and Boston College alum Brian Flores, current Buffalo Bills and former Chiefs offensive coordinator Brian Daboll and former Atlanta Falcons head coach Dan Quinn.
