5 WR/CB Matchups to Target

WR Adam Thielen, Minnesota Vikings vs. CB Ifeatu Melifonwu, Detroit Lions

Thielen has been on an absolute tear of late, scoring 22-plus fantasy points and three total touchdowns in the past two weeks. He’s been as close to unguardable as a receiver can get, climbing to a WR7 ranking on the season.

The veteran draws an intriguing matchup against Melifonwu this week, as no cornerback is allowing more receiving yards per coverage snap (4.10) or fantasy points per route (0.60) right now. And while these marks have come on tiny sample sizes, with Melifonwu being targeted just nine times, Thielen is almost guaranteed to continue his dominant streak and has top-five upside at the position this week.

WR Chris Godwin, Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. CB Richie Grant, Atlanta Falcons

It may not seem like it, but Godwin is still the WR9 in scoring this season. He’s one of the most consistent receivers in the game, having eclipsed 12-plus fantasy points in four of his past five games.

It’s confusing why the Falcons have elected to play Grant, a safety, at cornerback, and the results have been underwhelming, to say the least. This season, Grant is allowing 86% of his targets to be completed, the fourth-highest mark among qualifying cornerbacks. He’s also conceded a 141.8 passer rating in coverage and 0.42 fantasy points per route.
