Immediate takeaways of the NFL's first-round quarterbacks following Thursday's preseason action

Three quarterbacks were selected in the first 15 picks of the 2019 NFL Draft, and all three were in action to varying degrees on Thursday night. They combined for just 51 snaps on the field total, with 32 of those coming from one player, so we’re not going to read too much into their performances just yet. That being said, here are our observations from the first NFL games we’ve seen from these three hopeful franchise quarterbacks.

Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals

Snaps: 11
Preseason Week 1 grade: 82.9

Murray saw one drive of action, starting at the Cardinals' own two-yard line. The side didn’t look to do anything fancy, so Murray showed us pretty much exactly what we were expecting. He was accurate, putting the ball exactly where it needed to be for his receivers to make plays. Officially, he was six-for-seven for 44 yards, but the lone incompletion came on a play where his receiver stepped out of bounds. This came after he had scrambled free from pressure, and on the ensuing play, there looked to be some confusion with the snap count and Murray was sacked. All seven of his pass attempts were on throws shorter than nine yards downfield, but while there was nothing to really wow you outside of his nice work to get away from pressure on the previously mentioned play, it was a composed first outing for the number one overall pick.
