- Mike Triplett, covering the New Orleans Saints for ESPN, is reporting that veteran Ted Ginn is projected as one of the team’s starting wide receivers on their first “unofficial” depth chart.
- Ginn, a former first-round draft pick of the Miami Dolphins, is entering his 11th season in the league and signed with the Saints as a free agent in March.
- During the last two seasons, which Ginn spent with the Carolina Panthers, he has seen increased playing time, with his 178 combined targets in 2015 and 2016 significantly higher than the 151 from the previous five seasons combined (2010-2014). During this time, Ginn recorded PFF overall grades of 72.9 in 2015 and 71.2 in 2016, which are marginally below his career-best grade of 75.0, which he achieved in 2013 during a first stint with the Panthers.
- However, during this time, Ginn has also experienced some issues holding onto the football, with 16 drops from 114 catchable passes, culminating in a PFF drop rate (drop rate from catchable passes) of 16.98 in 2015, ranking the eighth-highest out of 85 eligible receivers, and 11.48 in 2016, 17th-highest out of 96.
