  • The Patriots have traded former 2014 second-round pick and backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2018 second-round pick.
  • Garoppolo, who played sparingly last season during Tom Brady’s four-game suspension, earned game grades of 69.7 and 86.5 in the two games he started against Arizona and Miami, respectively. In those two weeks he dropped back 62 times, completing 42-of-59 pass attempts and posted a passer rating of 119.0 and 8.4 yards per attempt.
  • Garoppolo performed well under pressure in those two games, earning a 106.0 passer rating and an adjusted completion percentage of 73.3
  • After losing their 2016 first-round pick via league punishment and trading their 2017 first-round pick for Brandin Cooks, the Patriots will either look to add to their diminished young talent on the roster or could flip the pick by Tuesday’s deadline for an asset to help in their playoff run.
