Los Angeles Rams DT Aaron Donald believed to have high-ankle sprain

  • Donald is still undergoing tests and the team will have full clarity on Wednesday.
  • High-ankle sprains typically are four-to-six-week injuries, and considering how the Rams' season has gone, Donald might be shut down for the year. This would be the first time in his career that he’ll miss games due to injury.
  • Donald is the latest Rams player to go down with an injury, joining Matthew Stafford, Cooper Kupp and Allen Robinson. LA has also been haunted by offensive line injuries throughout the season, as it has used a different starting five in every single game.
  • In 11 games, Donald has five sacks, 28 hurries, 10 tackles for a loss, 11 quarterback hits and a forced fumble. His 90.5 PFF grade on the season gives him a ninth straight year of a 90.0-plus grade.

Chicago Bears safety Eddie Jackson likely done for the season

  • Jackson went down during the second quarter of Sunday’s loss to the New York Jets with a non-contact injury. Per NFL Network, Jackson suffered a significant Lisfranc injury and is unlikely to return this season. Chicago placed him on injured reserve (IR) Tuesday.
  • Jackson has four interceptions through 12 games this season, tied for third-most in the NFL. His 75.8 PFF grade ranks 13th among qualifying safeties.
  • To help replace Jackson, the Bears promoted safety A.J. Thomas from the practice squad and signed veteran safety Adrian Colbert to their practice squad.

Green Bay Packers waive safety Johnathan Abram

  • Abram was waived by Las Vegas earlier this month and was claimed by Green Bay in a move that reunited him with former Raiders special teams coordinator and interim head coach Rich Bisaccia.
  • He appeared in two games for the Packers, playing just one defensive snap and 28 snaps on special teams.
  • A 2019 first-round draft pick, Abram has earned a 49.5 PFF grade this season. He totaled over 850 snaps in 2020 and 2021 after missing almost his entire rookie season. His 56.9 grade in 2021 was a career-best by a wide margin.
  • Green Bay was the only team to place a claim on Abram the last time. Teams will have until 4:00 on Thursday to place a claim on him or else he’ll become an unrestricted free agent.

More news and notes around the NFL

  • The Dallas Cowboys waived DE Tarell Basham, who they tried to trade before the deadline.
  • San Francisco 49ers RB Elijah Mitchell will miss six-to-eight weeks due to an MCL sprain. This is the second time Mitchell has suffered the injury this season. In the four games he has placed, he’s earned an 87.2 PFF grade.
