Fantasy: Offensive Depth Chart Review - Baltimore Ravens

Quarterback:

1 – Joe Flacco

In Flacco’s three years in the league, he has improved his fantasy value each year. In 2010 he ranked tenth in both passing yards and passing touchdowns. Through his short carrier he has yet to miss a game in the pros, which makes him a very safe possibility at quarterback. He likes to find his targets in the middle of the field, where 53% of his yards and 60% of his touchdowns occurred.

2 – Marc Bulger

He last saw action with the Rams in 2009 where he just saw 1469 yards and five touchdowns in nine games. When standing upright in 2009 he showed signs of being the great quarterback he once was with a PFF rating of +6.5, but when under pressure he crumbles with a PFF rating of -7.0.

3 – Hunter Cantwell – Reserve/Future Contract

Running Back:

1 – Ray Rice

In his second year as a starter Rice took a step backwards going from 5.4 yards per run in 2009 to 4.1 in 2010. His value is still sky high in PPR leagues as he led all running backs in receiving yards for a second straight year. He doesn’t score many touchdowns; just 14 over the past two seasons. Like Flacco he is a low risk selection with some upside.

2 – Jalen Parmele

In three years with the Ravens he has just seen 28 snaps. In that time he has 11 rushes for 57 yards, and no touchdowns or catches.

3 – Willis McGahee

In 2010 he took a step backwards as a rusher with only 3.8 yards per carry, although he still took touchdowns away from Ray Rice with five in the regular season. He has been very consistent in the pass game, but was only thrown at  42 times over the past two years.

4 – Matt Lawrence

He last played in Week 3 of 2009 where he had four runs for no yards and a catch for 4 yards.

5 – Curtis Steele – Reserve/Future Contract

Fullback:

1 – Le’Ron McClain

He had the second most rushing attempts for a fullback with 28. He hasn’t seen nearly as much of an opportunity as he saw in 2008.

2 – Jason McKie

Last played with Chicago in 2009, and hasn’t had a run since Week 10 of 2008.

Wide Receiver:

1 – Anquan Boldin

Through the 2010 season, Boldin saw his production go down. There were five games through the season where he was targeted eight or more times, and each occurred in the first 7 weeks of the season. He just ranked 27th in yards after ranking in the top 20 the previous two years with Arizona.

2 – Derrick Mason

While Mason remains highly rated in terms of PFF, he saw his production go down as a fantasy receiver in 2010. He went from 1028 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2009 to 802 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2010. At his age it’s hard to imagine him getting much better than his 2010 numbers.

3 – TJ Houshmandzadeh

With the Ravens, Houshmandzadeh never made much of an impact. The most catches he had in a game was four. He dropped over 10% of his passes which didn’t help his cause at all.

4 – Donte’ Stallworth

After not playing in the 2009 season, he saw a few snaps a game in the second half of the season with the Ravens. He only caught two balls, but one was a 67 yard bomb.

5 – David Reed

Only saw 12 snaps in 2010 with the Ravens, with just one ball thrown his way.

6 – Marcus Smith

Only saw 11 snaps in 2010 with the Ravens.

7 – Justin Harper – Reserve/Future Contract

8 – James Hardy – Reserve/Future Contract

9 – Brandon Jones – Reserve/Future Contract

Tight End:

1 – Todd Heap

He has been a constant with the Ravens over the years when he’s healthy, and had a respectable 599 yards and five touchdowns in 2010. He hasn’t shown signs of slowing down, but with the Ravens drafting tight ends recently it’s hard to imagine his numbers getting much better than his 2010 numbers.

2 – Ed Dickson

As a rookie he saw a lot of action with the Ravens, but mostly as a run blocker. He typically only saw one or two targets a game, where he had a total of 152 yards and one touchdown. Expect him to get a little more of an opportunity in 2011.

3 – Dennis Pitta

He was used even less than Dickson as a rookie. He just ran 25 pass routes where he was thrown at five times for a catch for a yard.

4 – Davon Drew

Drew has yet to play a down on offense.

Kicker:

1 – Billy Cundiff

Best known for his leg strength on kickoffs, Cundiff only missed three field goals all season. He ranked eighth in points, and with his leg strength is capable of long field goals is there are bonuses for that in your league.
