NFL Week 3: Fantasy IDP utilization report

Glendale, AZ, USA; Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray (1) scrambles out of the pocket as Los Angeles Rams defender Aaron Donald (99) chases him at State Farm Stadium. Nfl Rams At Cardinals

  • Target Curl in IDP leagues: Washington Commanders starting safety Kamren Curl made his season debut and was deployed in a box-heavy role, making him a potential alpha safety for IDP purposes going forward.
  • Davenport falling after slow start: New Orleans Saints edge defender Marcus Davenport’s disappointing start to the season and less-than-ideal usage is going to cause a steep drop in his ranking for the foreseeable future.
  • Injuries make Phillips viable: The Cleveland Browns are dealing with multiple injuries at the linebacker position, making Jacob Phillips a top waiver option this week.

WEEK 3 TAKEAWAYS

Some of the key players stood out as potential adds after Week 3 for leagues of all sizes:

Waiver Wire
  • LB – Josey Jewell, DEN – Jewell made his season debut and stepped right into the every-down role that was expected of him heading into the season.
  • LB – Jacob Phillips, CLV – The Browns have suffered multiple injuries to starting linebackers, clearing the way for a much bigger role for Phillips going forward.
  • LB – Darius Harris, KC – With Willie Gay serving a four-game suspension, Harris could make for a nice short-term asset after playing over 85% of snaps in Week 3.
  • LB – Kwon Alexander, NYJ – Quincy Williams is expected to miss multiple weeks, leaving Alexander the opportunity for a full-time role in his stead.
  • LB – Akeem Davis-Gaither, CIN – Germaine Pratt is dealing with an injury that caused him to miss this Week 3 game. Davis-Gaither can be considered in deeper leagues for as long as Pratt is out.
  • EDGE – Jason Pierre-Paul, BLT – The Ravens were thin at edge before Justin Houston’s injury so now, they may need to rely heavily on the newly signed Pierre-Paul going forward. Consider him a volume-play in deeper leagues after showing minimal effectiveness in 2021.
  • EDGE – Rashad Weaver, TEN – Weaver has played a ton of the Titans' edge snaps these past two weeks, which should allow him to be fantasy-relevant in deeper IDP leagues.
  • EDGE – Chris Rumph, LAC – With Joey Bosa expected to miss time, Rumph is the next man up to see snaps on the edge for the Chargers. Deep leagues only.
  • EDGE – Deatrich Wise, NE – Wise is seeing a high-volume role in the Patriots' defense, which led to big-time production in Week 3. He can be considered for IDP teams in need of depth at a thin position.
  • EDGE – Efe Obada, WAS – Obada played the second-highest percentage of snaps for the Commanders' edge group and produced decent metrics as a pass-rusher against a good offensive line.
  • S – Kamren Curl, WAS – While likely only available in shallower leagues, Curl has prime usage for an IDP safety and needs to be rostered, if available.
  • S – Rodney McLeod, IND – McLeod appears to be the current choice for Gus Bradley’s strong safety with ideal IDP usage. He should be added in most leagues.
  • S – Juju Hughes, DET – Tracy Walker’s season is done (Achilles), and Hughes appears to be the next man up for those looking for safety depth in deeper leagues.
  • S – P.J. Williams, NO – Marcus Maye is dealing with an injury and missed the Week 3 game. Williams can be considered a depth add while Maye is out.
